Starlink im Iran erfolgreich gestört
Nach übereinstimmenden Berichten deutet vieles darauf hin, dass das Regime inzwischen technische Mittel einsetzt, die über das bislang bekannte GPS-Jamming hinausgehen. Starlink gilt eigentlich als schwer zu blockieren, doch aktuelle Messungen sprechen für erhebliche Einschränkungen.
Wie die Times of Israel berichtet, beobachtet der in den USA lebende iranische Aktivist Mehdi Yahyanejad seit Beginn der jüngsten Proteste massive Ausfälle bei Starlink-Verbindungen. Yahyanejad verfolgt die digitale Lage im Iran seit Jahren und steht im Austausch mit Nutzern vor Ort. Seinen Angaben zufolge ist der Satellitenzugang in vielen Regionen nur noch eingeschränkt oder zeitweise gar nicht mehr nutzbar.

Diese Form des Jammings kann auch Starlink treffen, da die Empfangsgeräte Standortdaten benötigen, um sich korrekt auf die Satelliten auszurichten.
Nach Einschätzung von Yahyanejad erklärt GPS-Jamming jedoch nur einen Teil der aktuellen Probleme. Er berichtet von einem zunächst gemessenen Rückgang des Datenverkehrs um rund 30 Prozent. Inzwischen seien in einzelnen Gebieten sogar Einbrüche von bis zu 80 Prozent zu beobachten. Das lasse darauf schließen, dass eine deutlich effektivere und gezieltere Technik zum Einsatz komme.
Hilfe für das Regime aus Moskau?
Eine mögliche Erklärung liefert ein Blick nach Russland. Moskau versucht seit längerem, den Zugang der Ukraine zum Starlink-Netzwerk zu stören, und arbeitet mit Iran unter anderem bei der Drohnenproduktion eng zusammen. In diesem Zusammenhang wird ein mobiles Störsystem namens „Kalinka“ genannt. Es soll ohne auffällige Antennentechnik auskommen und gezielt einzelne Starlink-Terminals außer Gefecht setzen können. Die Reichweite wird auf etwa 15 Kilometer geschätzt.
Gegenmaßnahmen sind grundsätzlich bekannt. In der Ukraine wird etwa versucht, die Empfänger so zu platzieren oder abzuschirmen, dass seitlich einfallende Störsignale weniger Wirkung zeigen. Ob ähnliche Methoden im Iran angewendet werden, ist unklar. Fest steht jedoch: Mit der zunehmenden Störung von Starlink verliert die iranische Bevölkerung einen der letzten verbliebenen Zugänge zu einem weitgehend freien Internet.
Wie wirksam solche Eingriffe langfristig sind und welche Folgen sie für freien Informationszugang haben, bleibt offen – Einschätzungen und Meinungen dazu sind in den Kommentaren gefragt.“
